Weekend Away

For Christmas, David thought it would be nice to rent a cabin for the weekend...just the two of us. It was in Hot Springs NC about an hour from Ashville. We left Friday and regretfully had to come back on Sunday. But it was so nice! It was called the Hot Springs Log Cabins and our cabin was one of 5 or 6 spread out on 11 acres up in the mountains. It was 30 miles off the interstate, but when you are driving on all of those curvy roads and have to go so slow, it takes forever to get there. You are truly in the middle of nowhere! Cell phones don't work, there are no phones in the cabin (you have to use the one on the porch of the "pumphouse" which is in the middle of all the cabins,if you need to make a call) There is a town about 7-8 miles further down the road that is so small, there isn't even a stop light, actually I don't remember a stop sign for that matter. BFE...that's where we were.
Anyway, we got there and unloaded the car and took a look around. It was so cold that day and there was a bit of snow on the ground...very pretty. That night we got ready and went to dinner at one of the 2 restaurants they have in town. There was also a bar, an ice cream shop and a convenience store...that's it! We had a very nice dinner. I actually liked it surprisingly enough. I am so picky I didn't think I would like anything from the menu. But it was very good! After dinner, we went back to the cabin and enjoyed the hot tub on the porch for a little while. (don't worry, we turned it down to 96*) It felt so good in the tub with the cold air outside. The one thing that the cabin did have was satellite so we got the movie channels. We watched part of a movie, but were so relaxed from the hot tub that neither of us could stay awake.
Saturday we got up and cooked breakfast. Everything you needed was supplied in the cabin, we just had to bring the food. After breakfast we decided to go check out Max's Patch. We read in the comment book that it was a must see. So we drove there, again it took forever on the curvy, snowy roads, but once we got there you have to park your car and hike the rest of the way to the top! It didn't look so bad, but being a 6 month pregnant woman trying to climb a mountain trial in the snow, it was pretty hard! When we got to the top or the summit, you could see for miles and miles. The mountains seemed to go on forever! The pics just don't do it justice. Anyway, it was worth the hike and sore legs afterwards. :) We cooked dinner that night: ribs and potatoes on the grill, salad and a favorite - mac and cheese. :) Then it was one more trip to the hot tub and exhaustion set in again.
Sunday we got up and had breakfast again and then packed up to go home. :(
It was such a nice, relaxing weekend!! I can't wait to go back and would recommend it to everyone...as long as you don't mind being in the middle of nowhere!
